In the age of memory, before the mountains wore their beards of Pine, the Elves made a promise to the spirits of the Great Eastern Forest. In exchange for a home, they swore to protect and nurture the land for all of their days, becoming eternal custodians of the trees. The spirits agreed, for their power was waning and the forests would need a guardian when they were gone.
But a promise so precious should not be left to roam the wide world where it is sure to become lost or broken. So with the last of their power the Spirits crafted a beautiful hexagonal chest and wove into its lid a motif of swirling vines - a symbol of the Elves' new homeland. The promise was placed safely inside and cast upon it was a living seal of magic and protection. This was the first Vault, and it was the keeper of the Elves’ solemn oath.
The chest was sealed deep within the Earth where only the twisting roots of the oldest trees could reach, and it’s location was only known by a few. Each of the elders of the Elven clan were presented with an amulet fashioned in the same style as the chest. They wore them proudly, as a reminder of their pledge, and their fealty to the forest.
This is one of the original Vault amulets. The single, sparkling stone at its centre contains the last fragment of the Spirit’s magic that flows from the heart of the forest. It is a sacred symbol of a promise guarded.
